Student Council Meeting Update

Hello North, this is Malia Chen, Student Council Communications Director.

Student Council Representatives and officers, please read the following announcements to your class:

First off, we want to make it clear that anyone is welcome to attend a student council meeting. They are held every Thursday in the library, we only ask that you come at 12:20 unless you are an officer.

For all the younger students, Riley Martin and I (Malia Chen) will be presenting the student council notes to the North Parent Group so that everyone is informed of what goes on during our meetings. Now, all of the parents will get an update as well as the students.

The treasurers, Noelle Lawson and Henry Fradin have told us that they have not gotten the profit number from the popcorn sale, but will notify us as soon as possible.

The students in charge of The Game Room have created this form for you (the North students) to fill out! You can find the link here.

A quick recap on the popcorn sale, we had to buy multiple bags of popcorn so next time we will think carefully about how much popcorn we need. We will have presale tickets too, this way it will go much faster! Student council has a few other ideas for our next popcorn sale (if we have one) but those will not be shared on this buzz.

BLUE AND GOLD DAY  is on MONDAY 2/4/19!….YEARBOOK STAIR PHOTOS AND  STUDENT COUNCIL PHOTOS will start at 10am.

We are planning to have a bagel sale - Ms. Alich's idea! We don't have any details yet, but will inform everyone soon!

The next Rainbow Readers Book Club meets on  2/5/19 in room 13 during lunnch. We decided to read The Book of Elsewhere as our first book! We also have a much more manageable group, and Violet is super excited to be leading it!

An update for the Art Contest: We have put up paper entry forms on the office door and Ms. Felt's door so, please submit your ideas! We are excited about the number of entries we have collected over the past few days! We hope more North stars participate! Last day to enter is Friday, February 1st. Projects are due on March 8th!

5th grade legacy project leaders have given two ideas to parents as well as the form results. They haven't told us what they're going to do, but hopefully we will hear from them soon!

The first Constellations meeting was on 1/30/19 in the computer lab. We will most likely have a staff presentation, and will suggest a pilot constellation of students. We expect to create about 30 constellations, 1-3 students from each grade. If any students would like to come help plan, we will meet in the Computer Lab during AM recess today -2/1/19!

The Student Leadership Kiosk Team met on Tuesday, 1/28/19. You may have noticed that the letters are now up!  We are getting stars (of all sizes) made out of blue and gold paper and we'll glue them up. We will print up our announcements and photos on the large stars. If you have any ideas, let us know!

A reminder, the student council website is up and running, you can access the student council website from the North Buzz - it's at the very top, or the HCSD website. If you can't find these the link is also here.

Thank you,

Malia Chen

Rainbow Reader Book Club Important Announcement!

Hi, it's Violet Chaffee.

Yesterday, we voted on the book that we are going to read and we decided on The Book Of Elsewhere: The Shadows. If you didn't come to the meeting because you don't want to be in the book club any more, please let me know so that we don't order a copy of the book for you. We will be placing our order tomorrow, so please come to me sooner, rather than later. In the meeting, we decided that we are going to read 3 chapters a week and then discuss those chapters during the next meeting.

Thank you!

Violet

Football Team Captain Plan

Dear Football players,

As you know, football has been moved to the Crocker Blacktop. Recently, there has been an issue with who is the Team Captain. As a result, we are creating a schedule for who would like to be a team captain. If you are interested in being a team captain, you may pick up a GREEN form from your teacher.

Once you fill in the form, please use recess time to put it in the gold envelope labeled TEAM CAPTAIN on the front office door.

When we collect the names of students who would like a turn being a Team Captain, we will create a schedule on the link below and put it on the Buzz and student council website. I will also post a hard copy on the front of the principal's office.

If you have any questions, please see Principal Felt.

Character Team

There will be a character team meeting in room 23 from 12:00-12:40.

ART CONTEST ENTRY FORM DUE FRIDAY 2/1

Art Contest

Dear North Stars,

As you all know we are having an art contest. The theme is environment. All art forms are due February 1st and all art projects are due March 8th.

We put hard copy GREEN entry forms on the office door as well as the front of Principal Felt's door. They are green! Come get them!

You can have up to 3 people in a group. Art counts as drawings, photographs, 3D printer art, and paintings. We will select 1 winner from each grade.

The yearbook cover art contest is a separate contest but, you can re-submit your art from this contest to the yearbook cover contest. If you didn't do a drawing for the Art contest, then you cannot re-submit your art because the yearbook cover contest is only drawings.

The prize will be that we will frame your art for you and we will put it up around our school. If you have any questions, you can ask Emme Linthwaite or Lila Rubin. Have fun  !

Sincerely,

Emme and Lila
