Classroom Representatives: Please Read to your Classmates and teacher

North Buzz for Class Representatives:

Hi everyone, this is Malia Chen, the Student Council Communications Director.

Student Council Representatives please read this to your class:

Student Council had a quick debrief on what we learned from the Snow Thankful project. We discussed that it would be good to have a little more time, and possibly not pass out the notes written to students. We also decided that since this project had gone quite well overall and was tons of fun, to do thanking projects twice a year. Since the past one occurred right before winter break, we came to the conclusion - after voting, that we would do these projects right before winter and spring break. Everybody can definitely look forward to another wonderful thanking project! Stay tuned for more information and how you can help!

Climate Coordinator, Jaisimh came up with the splendid idea of having a game room open on Fridays during lunch recess. We haven’t decided upon a name yet, but we know that it will most-likely be held in room 13. Student Council will send out a Google form to decide what games to include and how to organize them. There will be special theme days in the game room such as Monopoly Day and/or Candyland Day. Hopefully, we will have more information on the game room later, it sure sounds like a fun event!

We are having Crazy Hair Day AND a popcorn sale (during both am and lunch recesses) on the 25 of January, 1/25/19. Posters making will be on Friday 1/11/19 in room 13 during lunch. The profits of the popcorn sale will help fund the game room!

As for the Student Art Contest, you may have up to three group members and photos, paintings, 3D printing, etc. with be accepted. Entry forms are due 2/1/19 and projects will be due on 3/8/19. It is fine to submit the same project to the Student Art Contest AND the yearbook cover contest, but they may have different themes. The theme for the Art Contest is environment.

Next, Hadley and Eva are working hard on the 5th Grade Legacy Project! Time is running out! If any 5th grader would like to submit an idea,  please do so before the end of school on Friday January 11th. Hadley or Eva offered to create a Tinkercad model for a google form for 5th graders to vote. They will remind students tomorrow in their 5th grade classrooms between 2:15-3pm. A Google form will go out to 5th graders on 1/11 and winning ideas will be submitted to 5th Grade Promotion parent lead team for final decision.

Now we have the student leadership kiosk. The kiosk near the library will now be a student leadership kiosk. We will fill it with a schedule of each month’s leadership activities and we are working on decorating it so it looks super cool! We will let you know what’s coming up for the current month, how to get more information (the student council website) and fun photos from our activites!

Finally, Violet Chaffee has created the 5th grade Rainbow Readers Book Club. Violet had the idea of creating a book club for 5th graders, and we can’t wait for the first meeting on Tuesday, 1/15/19 in room 13. Rainbow Readers will be held from 12:00-12:40 on Tuesdays. Violet will post a Buzz with more information and a link for you to sign up. Principal Felt will purchase the FIRST BOOK for the FIRST RAINBOW READER BOOK CLUB!!!!!!! Violet will visit all three 5th grade classrooms on 1/11 between 2:15-3pm to answer any questions you might have.

            Thank you,

Malia Chen, Communications Director
